'57 Chevy

One year ago the 1957 Chevy Handyman, 2 door, wagon arrived. This car is awesome and succeeded in making 2014 a very memorable year.

Car Shows

You don't have to be crazy to be a streetrodder, but it certainly explains a lot of things!  In 2014, we traveled to two national shows: Minneapolis Back to the '50s and Des Moines Heartland Nationals.

Here is our typical agenda (with photos to validate).

Meet in the hotel parking lot at 3:00am ... yes, 3:00am!

Arrive at "staging" area prior to gates opening. Time is spent talking about cars, eating Mary Jo's chocolate chip cookies, discussing why we got up so early and napping.

Race thru the opening gates to our special parking place, erect canopies and set out lawn chairs.

Unpack all our stuff!

It's tradition…we kick off the show with Skinner's Bloody Marys.

Wayne, Rex, Bill, Butch, Earl (a.k.a. Skinner)
Of course, there will be rain at some point. This deluge was in
Des Moines. I chose to sit in the car and sip a latte.

Then the sun and spectators came out.

A car show is time spent with great friends, making fun memories and enjoying a good laugh. (Bob and Rex)

Sandy and I have way too much fun!

Girls and Cars

We girls love the cars and shows as much as the guys. There's time to chat, shop, read, shop, eat, shop (you get the picture).

Sandy and I took this selfie of our cute hair accessories at the Scrap Drive car show. Wish it had been a video as we discussed how I should hold the phone, get us (not the sky or our feet) in the photo and locate the button to press…while turning my head away.

Other options (that did not occur to us):
1. Have Sandy hold the camera.
2. Move my flower.

In the News

We always scour the car magazines for photos. This year our group made three publications!

Our Des Moines lineup of cars and canopies  appeared in the November edition of Good-Guys Magazine.

Bob's 1955 Chevy needed a little exhaust adjustment at Des Moines Heartland Nationals. Bob is under the car (you can see his tennis shoe) while Rex supervised!
Brenda's "Camaro" tattoo caught the eye of a photographer and ended up in the October edition of HOTROD magazine.
